A gun store POS is more than a cash register
It is usually the system that touches more of your business than anything else you own.
The POS records the sale, but it also holds the price, decrements the shelf, files the customer, triggers the payment, and produces the numbers the month closes on. Every one of those touchpoints is a place where another system needs the same information.
That is why POS decisions rarely stay POS decisions. A platform that handles the counter beautifully but cannot publish stock to a storefront, or cannot export a usable report, quietly creates a second job for someone on staff.

Firearm retailers place operational demands on a POS that general retail platforms were not designed around.
Serialized units behave differently from stackable goods: each one is an individual record with its own history, not a quantity in a bucket. Transfers, special orders and layaway create order states that exist for weeks. Recordkeeping software often sits alongside the POS rather than inside it, which creates a data boundary that has to be handled deliberately.

- Is switching POS systems worth it?
- Sometimes. Migration costs real time in product mapping, data, hardware and training. It is worth it when the current platform blocks integrations or reporting you need; it is not worth it when configuration and connection work would solve the same problem.
